A professional history, in chronological order:
I devoted a long span of years to the study of Mathematics. In my teen years back in Romania I used to participate in Mathematics competitions (aka Olympiads). I won some prestigious prizes and trips abroad and have some great memories of those times.
In 1998 I came to the USA to study at MIT for my bachelors degree. As an undergraduate, I focused mainly on Theoretical Mathematics (Geometry, Topology and Analysis), while also exploring the field of Computer Science. The MIT years consisted of hard work and high levels of stress, but after all was said and done, it is good to have the brand name. While at MIT, I worked on
After MIT I came to Columbia University where I successfully completed a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Ioannis Karatzas. I specialized in Stochastic Analysis, Probability and Mathematical Finance. I have greatly benefited from mathematical interactions with Prof. Marc Yor from France and Prof. Jonathan Warren from the UK. My thesis research was in Stochastic Portfolio Theory, a field pioneered by Dr. Robert Fernholz.
